Welcome to the new King Willam County Virgina Tea Party Website " Past Year 2018 " Page.
Below are the Events we have had and the ones we have in the works. We want to keep the citizens of
King William County informed of issues on a local, state and national level.

The King William TEA Party is an independent political movement loosely aligned with other local, state and
national TEA Parties. We are a grass roots movement who take our name from a historical act of defiance against
the King of England when Americans thought they were "Taxed Enough Already".

We believe in a return to sound fiscal policy at the federal, state and county level. We believe in Federalism and
the limits of federal power that our founders intended.

The King William Tea Party does not condone nor will it tolerate racism, sexism, or religious intolerance or bigotry
in any form within the ranks of its membership or at any of its sanctioned events.  Such beliefs, attitudes, and
activities are contrary to the basic rights of all humankind as outlined in the Constitution, Bill of Rights, and
Declaration of Independence.

Our goal is for this site to keep you informed of political events, news, and issues that are important to you, the
citizens of King William County Virginia.

Our meetings begin promptly at 6:30 PM with Locations to be Announced.

A Walk Down Memory Lane For Our K.W Board Of Supervisors

As we age obviously certain skill sets diminish, all of us do what we can to maintain cognitive levels, hoping nature and a good set of genes staves off the ravages of old age setting in. It is also why we maintain records, and on the King William T.E.A Party website we have from the archives of 2015 the Candidate Questionnaires. It is worth a return trip since the new Chair, Bill Hodges is settling in and the Board begins the process of digesting information to shape the 2018-19 County Budget. In the event that your scheduling demands won’t allow you to take that time to revisit the Questionnaire we decided to share with you some of the Jewels from the Candidates (now Supervisors) pledges they made in the effort to secure your precious vote.

Question# 12 seemed a good starting point. The question was “Has spending under the current Board been - Too high___ Too Low___ or Where it should be____

Hodges said it was Too High and so did Stephen Greenwood? Two years of their votes haven’t seemed to jell with that opinion, all things considered.

Question #1 Name 1 item you would specifically cut from the County Budget? Greenwood stated B.P.O.L Odd since he hasn’t done anything about eliminating the hated B.P.O.L tax…..at least for those of us not granted an exemption from paying it. If you own a business in King William and you pay it you might ask the 3rd District Supervisor just when he plans on acting on his promise, or perhaps ending the exemption for the privileged Oligarch Pals

Question #2 Should the B.O.S need additional revenue next year, where would you find it?…..Greenwood answered…. “Some sort of actual cut in spending”, leaving those of us who watch the out of control spending to ask ….WHEN?

Question # 3 Should the Board exert more pressure on the School budget, which Supervisor Greenwood answered YES. If you recall last year after the budget was approved within weeks the Board of Supervisors voted first …for an additional $75,000 to give the schools, THEN several weeks later the same Board voted YES to allow the schools to re-categorize several hundreds of thousands of dollar that were in the School Text Book fund (for buying ….you know—TEXT BOOKS), ONLY TO AUTHORIZE MUCH OF THE MONEY TO BE USED FOR PAY RAISES AND ADDITIONAL HIRING. Greenwood sure exerted some more pressure on that school spending –Heh.

Question # 7 Would you support a 2 year spending freeze? Once again Supervisor Greenwood answered YES. That answer must have slipped Greenwoods mind last May when he voted YES on a budget that actually increased 4.7% -----------Where are those spending cuts Sir?

Question #10 Name 2 items in the Budget that you consider non-essential? Greenwood responded Art’s Alive & the Airport Authority…..yet last year Greenwood actually INCREASED ART’S ALIVE’s BUDGET AND NEVER SAID A WORD ABOUT ELIMINATING THE TAXPAYER SUBSIDIES TO THE AIRPORT AUTHORITY?

Question #14 Why are you running for the Board? Greenwood’s response was (and this is a real laughter) “ I am running because the citizens wishes are not being listened to, I want to try once again to cut some spending

Our group believes elected officials should be held accountable for campaign pledges and promises they make when running for office. Maybe citizens might ask our new Chairman Bill Hodges and Supervisor Greenwood to explain the clear contradictions in what they said 28 months ago, and their actions the last 2 years.

Wharton's Olivia Mitchell and Leora Friedberg of the University of Virginia discuss the $4.4 trillion public sector pension shortfall.

Not Enough time, Not Enough Money

Sanitation workers, firefighters, teachers and other state and local government employees have performed their duties in the public sector for decades with the understanding that their often lackluster salaries were propped up by excellent benefits, including an ironclad pension. But Moody’s Investors Service recently estimated that public pensions are underfunded by $4.4 trillion. That amount, which is equivalent to the economy of Germany, accounts for one-fifth of national debt. It’s a significant concern for public employees who were banking on a fully funded retirement to get them through their golden years.

The May 10 at 6:30 pm meeting:

Main topics:
National: Gun Violence in Public Schools FACTS vs. FICTION Local Tax Payers recently watched as King William B.O.S approved a new resource Officer for the 3 other public schools at a annual cost of around $100,000. Factor in salary, a car, pension, & other heavily subsidized benefits that is a lot of money. Is the safety of school children important---of course it is. Was this necessary and will it be effective is the question. Public school systems are spending horrific amounts of money on Security.....is this a wise expenditure in lieu of the data ?

We will examine the studies and statistics on gun violence in the Nations public schools and whether or not this expenditure is warranted. Often times politicians manipulate and exploit fear, leaving some to questions is adding another resource Officer one of those very examples. Those serving on the Board who supported this can claim "well, I'm doing something"...even when something doesn't amount to much in terms of the effectiveness.

State: The State budget is still in limbo as the G.A wrestles with just how they will pay for Medicaid Expansion. As we discussed in some detail at our last meeting the actual results in Ohio have been devastating, costs have been double what was expected or estimated. What will this mean in Virginia ? TAX INCREASES are coming, the proposed tax on hospitals will not be sufficient to cover what will be a financial tsunami for Virginians.

Local: Controversy swirls around the idea of video/audio taping all public meetings, the Boards meetings and workshops, E.D.A meetings, Planning commission meetings..etc etc. How would we do this, there are equipment needs, a person to attend these meetings and set up the equipment. What purpose would this serve ? Would it eliminate what is becoming a problem on the B.O.S, namely the "nod votes" that run contrary to good government. Elected & Appointed Officials responsible for spending tax payer money should go ON THE RECORD WITH RECORDED VOTES, not this silly practice of quietly ( and off the record) signaling their intentions with head nods. Accountability is vital, and it will require a commitment in order to achieve this goal.

Our Next Meeting is

The Jun 14 at 6:30 pm meeting:

Main topic:
Prof. Gary Wolfram - Hillsdale College

"Is Capitalism Good For the Poor?" Part 2

Perhaps a fitting Biblical example would be the old passage about

"teaching a man to fish vs. giving him a fish" Progressives have carved out, nurtured and fostered a dependency on government with all of the predictable results

Class envy, resentment, identity politics have brought about a significant portion of American society that today does believe they are entitled to a basic standard of living that should be provided by government. The obvious problem with that is "government "is defined using other citizens resources, that are confiscated and redistributed to others, defined and selected by the progressive army of civil servants assigned the task of the actual redistribution. This has grown to such proportions that it now has ultimately created the back lash we are seeing by the middle class who in many instances simple want government to leave them alone and allow them to keep the income they rightfully earn.

In an explanation by the KW County Director of Social Services during the budget discussions back in April she explained ( in an answer to a programs specifics) that the money was used to buy class rings, and graduation gowns for foster children graduating from high school. Using that one example think of the absurdity in and of itself. An 18 year old that can not be expected to save a few hundred dollars over the 3 years of high school from a summer job to pay for their own class ring and gown ? If this constitutes a legitimate use of tax dollars where then is the line ? What wouldn't be justified after such a ridiculous example like this ? What lesson has that young person taken from this ? Someone else is responsible for buying my class ring and gown ? Is anyone then surprised by the type of thinking this fosters ?

Capitalism as Professor Wolfram teaches us is the economic system that has enriched America , creating the success story we became...........until politician's figured out they could use other peoples money to buy power for themselves. The problem as the Late Margaret Thatcher pointed out is that " it works until you run out of other peoples money"

Liberals would love for you to believe that free-market
capitalism only helps the rich, and that socialism helps the
poor. Nothing could be further from the truth. Socialism is
an evil ideology that has killed millions, while free markets
have lifted millions out of poverty. Hillsdale Prof. Gary Wolfram

King William T.E.A. Party's 9th birthday celebration

King William, Virginia, August 9th , 2018

Regulars, supporters and well wishers gathered in the Upper King William Library to celebrate nine years of volunteer, grass-roots activism in King William County, “comforting afflicted taxpayers and afflicting the comfortable power structure.”

Robert Shannon, the group's founder and driving force, took the opportunity to thank attendees for their many contributions “in helping to keep the group the viable and thriving organization it still is today, an amazing nine years of volunteer watchdog service since our very first meeting.”

“Whether it has been to help dig post holes and painting signs, helping with the education program, lending your skills to creating our paid ads, skillfully maintaining our website and Facebook pages, or the myriad of other tasks that have kept us going strong--Thank you !” Shannon said.

“It is the collective efforts of so many who have contributed to this group being recognized as one of the most effective T.E.A Party groups in Virginia. That is only possible because of you and the hard work and generosity of the Patriots who comprise our group.”

Both parties refuse to face up to their responsibilities and continue in their cowardly ways to avoid the tough choices necessary to restore some fiscal sanity to the issue of SPENDING. Political leverage has to be utilized as an effective tool responsible voters wield if any progress is to be made. This past week a interesting discussion ensued on The Bull Elephant on the topic of holding politicians accountable. A review of the starkly contrasting " censures" written by county republican party committees , ranging from genuine tough hard lines ( Culpepper County) to the milquetoast civility of ( Fauquier County) provides valuable insight into the internal war being waged for the very heart & soul of a party that conservatives used to consider home, a party that had bedrock principles they defended vigorously. What specifically can we do to further the discussion ? It warrants to focus on the short term vs. the long game.

State : Thursday we will review the excellent response generated by our own Rick Ryan to the proposed 70 million dollar grant that Governor Northam wants to award the Micron Corporation. As a Engineer with a specialization in Power Generation, Rick has documented and detailed precisely why this is a waste of taxpayer money. Yet another example of crony capitalism at it's worst. While it is always done under the guise of "targeted economic development" it most often is nothing more than politicians rewarding corporate campaign donors. What can be done about it---PLENTY-- if a coordinated effort is undertaken to solicit , secure and then publish each member of Virginia's General Assembly and record where they stand on this grotesque practice. How hard would it be to ask Del Chris Peace, Keith Hodges, Tommy Norment and Ryan McDougal ( our area representatives) to go on record as to YES or NO regarding this 70 million dollar scam ?

Fred Krauss will update us on the rapid speed the high speed internet industry is advancing remedies for rural Broadband. Do we need local government spending tax payers money ?

Local : Hear the response we received from one of our School Board Reps Steve Tupponce on the question of School OPEB Other Post Employment Benefits, and what Tupponce had to say about the issue of Pension Debt

Get the latest on the $$$ Boondoggle going on with the Hamilton Holmes School Renovation Project. After 5 years of " consultations" with school officials they are discovering new needs.........major costs associated with these recently disc

SPECIAL MEETING - The Oct 11 Meeting rescheduled - Thursday November 15, 6:00 pm at RIPLEY'S RESTAURANT located in the same mall as the Upper King William Library

The Oct 11 at 6:30 pm meeting (Rescheduled - Thursday November 15, 6:00 pm)

Main topic:
National Debt issue with SPECIFIC CLARITY & DETAILS, as well as ways with which meaningful spending can be curtailed that will make a dent in this huge fiscal hole we face as a nation. The updated report makes it clear that ..............waste, fraud & abuse-------cutting foreign aid-----or ending welfare..................won't get us even close to solving this worsening problem.

The second portion planned is the PPEA Public Private Education Act, first passed by the Virginia General Assembly in 2002, and adopted last month by the King William Board of Supervisors. Research into this act leaves some very disturbing questions that need to be raised and or answered as to why the Board adopted this , and why now with the Act being on the books for some 16 years.

Questions regarding why NOW, 5 months after the Board set aside some two million dollars for "targeted economic development" ? Equally important is two questions specific to the language in the PPEA that does not serve tax payers interest. These questions should be discussed and then asked of our elected officials.

Come join us at Ripley's ( The Library was not available that night ) , and please note the 6 pm start time . We have the room in the rear of the Restaurant we used back in Janu
