Welcome to the new King Willam County Virgina Tea Party Website " Past Year 2017 " Page.
Below are the Events we have had and the ones we have in the works. We want to keep the citizens of
King William County informed of issues on a local, state and national level.

The King William TEA Party is an independent political movement loosely aligned with other local, state and
national TEA Parties. We are a grass roots movement who take our name from a historical act of defiance against
the King of England when Americans thought they were "Taxed Enough Already".

We believe in a return to sound fiscal policy at the federal, state and county level. We believe in Federalism and
the limits of federal power that our founders intended.

The King William Tea Party does not condone nor will it tolerate racism, sexism, or religious intolerance or bigotry
in any form within the ranks of its membership or at any of its sanctioned events.  Such beliefs, attitudes, and
activities are contrary to the basic rights of all humankind as outlined in the Constitution, Bill of Rights, and
Declaration of Independence.

Our goal is for this site to keep you informed of political events, news, and issues that are important to you, the
citizens of King William County Virginia.

Our meetings begin promptly at 7 PM with Locations to be Announced.

News Release

Making the case for Public Charter Schools
12 October 2017, King William, Va

Speaking to a meeting of the King William T.E.A. Party, Antione M. Green, a Senior Advocacy Associate with the Foundation for Excellence in Education, presented a powerful case in support of Public Charter Schools in Virginia.

“We must redefine what public education means and how we’re going to meet the individual academic needs of today’s school children,” Green said. “This is why charter schools are a critical element of making our country greater for our children and grandchildren.”

Green, a key figure in the creation and subsequent success of Richmond's Patrick Henry Science and Arts, Virginia's first elementary charter school.

“What started off as a school with just a little over 100 kids,” he said, “now is serving more than 300 children, with over 200 on the school’s waiting list.”

Noting that there are only nine such charter schools in all of Virginia when North Carolina has 160, Green asserted that children in chronically failing public school systems will be far better off in charter schools.

“Why aren’t we in the greatest state in the nation taking advantage of this k12 reform that has been battle-tested and data proven to improve the academic outcomes and help meet the academic needs of our young people? This model gives our teachers the flexibility and autonomy to teach new innovative methods to reaching our kids. No more one-size fits all for teaching and providing instruction with the expectation that all kids learn the same.”

Responding to the critical question of what concerned citizens can do to overcome opposition from local public school authorities and the Virginia Education Association, Green cited the foundation's legislative proposal for creation of regional public charter school divisions.

“Public Schools need some competition,” he asserted. “Nothing else will bring down costs or improve declining performance. It's time to end the government monopoly. Public Education has become a bureaucracy that needs to be reined in, and competition works to improve quality and to lower costs.”

What are charter schools?

Charter schools are tuition-free public schools open to all students. They are publicly funded and held t o state academic and financial standards. Unlike traditional public schools, however, charter schools are run independently of school districts and, instead, operate under a performance contract with an authorizer (a district, the state, or another approved entity). >

KW Planning Director foresees no staff increases
King William, VA , July 27th, 2017

Bucking a disturbing trend seen throughout government at all levels, KW County Planning Director Wally Horton said that the current budget and staffing levels in his department are sufficient for its responsibilities.

“We've got very good people in all our positions,” he said, “and if needed, we can shift some duties around.”

This declaration of financial responsibility was applauded by attendees at Thursday evening's meeting of the King William Tea Party, dedicated to cutting government spending and passing along savings to taxpaying citizens.

Horton's presentation showed how the department helps protect the county's natural resources and quality of life through developing and recommending growth management strategies.

This, he said, “encourages community growth through sound land use development practices.”

Bob Shannon, the group's founder, repeated the familiar charge of documented history of prior mismanagement in the county's government in general and the Planning Department in particular.

“Over the last decade several major blow ups ended up costing KW tax payers millions of dollars,” he said, “from the water /sewer issues, to the pumping station fiasco at a local subdivision to the Urban Development Grants that caused King William to have to comply with some highly questionable zoning rules.”

Horton, who took over the top spot in fall of 2016, detailed several initiatives to specifically address these concerns including tightening the release of Surety Bonds and multi-agency cooperation in evaluating plans and monitoring progress of major developments. .

County Supervisors Bob Ehrhart (Mangohick) and Dave Hansen (Manquin) who were in the audience, commended Horton on the record thus far of his department's efficiency and avoiding what some characterize as 'good ole boy practices' of the past.

King William County's Planning Department is responsible for long-range planning for land use and transportation and for reviewing and updating the County's Comprehensive Plan, Zoning and Subdivision Ordinances. It is also responsible for processing and reviewing land disturbance and zoning permits, rezoning, conditional use and special exception requests, plans of development, subdivision proposals and erosion and sediment control for the County. Planning staff also provides support to the Board of Supervisors, Planning Commission, Board of Zoning Appeals and the Historic Preservation and Architectural Review Board on matters involving long-range planning and development review policy. Tea Party Activists Celebrate
7th Anniversary

King William, VA, August 11th, 2016

Long time members and supporters recently

some traveling from nearby counties to share in
the celebration.

"Those of you here tonight and many others in our communities, have kept this effort going for seven years,” Shannon said,
“lending your time, talents and energy to maintain the last real voice of opposition to an ever-expanding government
at every level, resisting the repeated calls from concerned citizens for restoration of our Founders' wise vision.”

The Apr 27 Meeting.

Main Topic Cliff Hyra - Libertarian Candidate
To Speak At K.W.T.P Meeting Thursday April 27th
.

For those of you discouraged by this year’s crop of
Candidates for Virginia Governor we invite you to come out
and hear what Mr. Hyra’s positions are on the issues.

An Attorney who recently relocated to Mechanicsville from
Northern Virginia and decided to take on this challenge has
some very interesting ideas he has promoted in several public
discussions over the last two weeks

Prominent among his top proposals is one to eliminate the
first $50,000 from Virginia Income Tax giving relief to Virginia’s
middle class who have been inundated with increasing health
insurance costs, rising food and fuel costs along with those
paying increasing college tuition. The estimated savings would
be around $2500 a year, enough to make a difference in households
struggling with these rising expenses.

Meetings of KWTP are open to all citizens
of good will. Usually held on the second
and fourth Thursdays each month.

The Next Meeting is at

7 PM Thursday, Aug 24th at Upper KW Library

Main topic is "Should 3rd District
Supervisor Stephen K. Greenwood be
Recalled?
" Come to the meeting and
find out why.

In Virginia the decision in whether or not
to remove someone from office or order a recall
election is left after petitioning the court ultimately
in the hands of a Circuit Court Judge. Obviously
then it is incumbent should the effort be made that
a detailed and clear case be outlined for the grounds
being used/cited for the elected officials removal. What
is malfeasance ? Can a case be made that it exists,
relative to the elected officials conduct and performance
in their duties ?

Our Next Meeting is at

7 PM Thursday, Sept 28th at Upper KW Library

Main topic:
Debt Slavery Via The College Education Bubble or
A Better Solution for Financing College Education - PART II

A Video With Mike Rowe (Dirty Jobs)and Dave Ramsey providing insight on this topic.

The Bureau of Labor Statistics is also predicting that seven out of the ten fastest growing jobs in the next decade will be based not on higher education, but on-the-job training. As jobs in their field of study are proving to be largely unavailable, college graduates are finding better opportunities for income advancement in the skilled labor fields. Mike Rowe argues that there exists a skills gap where millions of good jobs are going unfilled and that we are unnecessarily, and even with a stigma, discouraging young people from perusing careers in the trades. Instead we are continuously and aggressively pushing the idea that a college education is the ONLY path to middle-class prosperity. Mike is forging a campaign to change this perception.

KWTP in Local Newspapers

All of our local papers have been supportive by printing our meeting announcements, news releases, letters to the editor,
and often their own reporting on our events. While such coverage should not be taken as an endorsement of KWTP's goals and
objectives, it is an important community service that keeps citizens informed. Please make it a point to email or call to say
'thanks!'
